Runways offer two services for assessing your 'Gait Analysis.'
1) We offer a free service of gait analysis for buying new runners. This services can take up to 20 minutes and we make recommendations on the correct runner suited to you.
2) We also offer a Premium service. This is an appointment service with a fully-qualified Athletic Therapist. The Premium Gait Analysis is for individuals seeking an in-depth analysis of their 'gait.' More information about the Premium Gait Analysis can be found below.
The gait analysis is used to help
individuals run more efficiently and to identify posture-related or
movement-related problems that may arise due to their running technique.
Our
premium gait analysis looks at your foot biomechanics in detail with
the view of selecting the most suitable pair of shoes for you. We
utilise both stationary and dynamic tests to assess foot mechanics. The
purpose of these tests is to give us an accurate understanding of your
running gait. We are then able to select the best footwear options for
you based on all the information collected.
The Premium Gait Analysis is done by Ronan Fallon, a chartered physiotherapist from the
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Ronan has an extensive sporting and
academic background in athletics with a
previous elite rugby playing career. This includes winning Leinster and
All-Ireland titles. He is currently involved in designing and
implementing strength & conditioning programmes for several club
teams. Ronan has a unique insight into the practical knowledge of sports
injuries and the pressure that exists on athletes to return to their
sport as soon as possible.
1.We start by assessing your foot posture using "the foot posture
index test" This examines the various structural elements of the foot.
This gives us a clear picture of your foots structural make up.
2.Functional ankle stability is an important component of foot
biomechanics. We examine ankle stability using a number
of functional tests.
3.Video analysis software is then used to examine running gait at
various speeds. We use Dartfish software to analyse your gait and
determine what movement pattern you fall into. This information will
have a profound effect on the selection of shoes for you.
4.We analyse you further with the video analysis on the treadmill
with suitable shoe options to decipher the best fit .
5.Gross Abnormalities are noted and should we deem further
assessment is required we have number of specialists who can be
recommended to design custom made insoles and orthotics. Referral
letters can be drawn up and are included in the premium gait service
price
The gait analysis can be tailored to analyse what effect your gait
may be having on a particular injury problem.(eg Shin Splints,Knee
Pain) We can offer advice on prevention or rehabilitation for these
problems.
A summary of all the testing will be emailed on afterward for your
own use.
